This Kawasaki Vulcan 750 has a reliable and powerful v-twin engine matched to a 5-speed transmission. The engine has hydraulic valves, liquid cooling, and electronic ignition. The engine is rubber-mounted to minimize vibration. A rugged shaft drive provides reliability and ease of maintenance. The tires are nearly new Metzler marathons. Twin front disc brakes and a sturdy rear drum stop the bike quickly. The rear shocks are adjustable and air-assisted. 1983 Honda VT500C Shadow 500 $1,700

“The Shadow was one of the first cruiser-style motorcycles offered by Honda, with a teardrop tank, flared pipes, and a relaxed riding posture. This is an excellent motorcycle for a beginner or intermediate rider, and this particular bike has a few extremely rare features that you aren’t going to find anywhere else: an after-market touring luggage rack/sissy bar, crash bar and highway pegs. At first I thought that perhaps the owner was asking a wee bit too high, until I saw that this Shadow 500 only has 7,000 miles on its odometer. Ah, the mid 80’s - when you could buy a great, dependable cruiser, or a standard bike, or a sport bike.

Recent Model Suzuki GZ250 $2,000

…As a new motorcycle rider, you have quite a few good quarter-liter cruiser motorcyles to choose from. The Honda Rebel, of course; the Yamaha Virago 250 (my favorite of the class); and Suzuki’s GZ 250. The GZ here only has one cylinder, but its looks and styling are tops. New, these bikes go for $3,249 from a dealership, so you’re saving considerable coin with this used one. The owner/seller didn’t specify which year his/her Suzuki GZ 250 is, and the image shown in the craigslist ad (and here) is a stock Suzuki image. It’s a great beginner’s bike, it looks a little different than the Honda Rebel, and it’s priced very well.
